About Wild Shadow Psychology
About Us
At Wild Shadow Psychology, we offer a warm, down-to-earth space for deep exploration and healing. Our approach is relational, integrative, and grounded in evidence-based therapies, helping you reconnect with yourself and navigate life’s challenges with clarity.
We specialise in trauma, attachment, culture, relationships, neurodivergence, and psychedelic integration. Rooted in both modern neuroscience and depth psychology, we honour the mind-body connection and the wisdom of the unconscious. We weave together somatic practices, shadow work, and psychodynamic insights alongside EMDR, Schema Therapy, IFS, and mindfulness to support deep, lasting change.
We also recognise that individual mental health is deeply embedded within broader systems—cultural, political, and familial. Our work is trauma-informed, socially aware, and considers the ways systemic forces shape personal experiences and wellbeing.
Whether you're seeking therapy, supervision, or integration support, we’re here to walk alongside you—at your pace, in your way.

Frequently Asked Questions
Therapy and Support
-
Yes! Online therapy can be just as effective as in-person sessions for many people. Research shows that virtual therapy supports a wide range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship challenges.
One of the key benefits of online therapy is accessibility—you can connect from the comfort of your own space, reducing barriers like travel time, mobility issues, or scheduling conflicts. Some people even find it easier to open up in a familiar environment.
At Wild Shadow Psychology, we offer the same warmth, depth, and evidence-based approaches online as we do in person. Many therapeutic modalities, including EMDR, translate exceptionally well to virtual sessions. In fact, specialised platforms exist to ensure EMDR remains structured and effective online.
Ultimately, whether in-person or virtual, the most important factor is finding a therapist you feel connected with.

In addition to telehealth being as effective as face-to-face psychological therapy, here are some other great benefits
The cozy factor- Imagine doing therapy from the comfort of your own couch, no awkward waiting-room moments, just you and your favorite mug of tea, your tunes playing in the background, and maybe your little fur-baby curled at your feet. All these comforts contribute to you feeling safe and increase your ability to regulate and get the most from therapy.
Transcend geographical boundaries: You can attend your sessions from anywhere in the world that has a quiet location and stable internet connection…Maybe it is from a private space at work or from your car with a view of the ocean.
Eliminate travel and save time: No need to race between school drop-offs/work/study, pay for parking or get stuck in traffic.

Yes! At Wild Shadow Psychology, we take privacy and security seriously. Our online sessions are conducted through encrypted, secure platforms that meet strict confidentiality standards, ensuring everything you share remains private and protected.
As a trauma-informed and attachment-focused practice, we understand the importance of creating a safe space, whether in person or online. To further protect your privacy, we recommend choosing a quiet, private location for your telehealth session. This helps minimise distractions and ensures you feel comfortable speaking openly.
If you have any concerns about security or the technical side of things, we’re happy to walk you through how it all works before your session.

We don’t provide formal written assessments or reports, but we do offer informal assessments and screeners. For example, we can screen for autism and ADHD or discuss your symptoms and how they align with DSM diagnostic criteria for conditions like depression, anxiety, PTSD, bulimia, autism, and ADHD.
-
This will be discussed in your treatment plan and is dependent on many factors including; your level of distress, therapeutic goals, and level of engagement. Whilst your psychologist will make recommendations you are ultimately in control. As a generalization, acute or short-term difficulties require fewer sessions than long-term, chronic difficulties.

The cost of psychological therapy is often covered to some degree by private health cover. Please check with your insurance company as to what level of cover you have and what level of reimbursement you may receive.
-
We do not accept individual bulk-billing referrals. Our focus is on ensuring mental health care reaches those most in need. We collaborate with community organisations and engage in volunteer and pro bono work to support those facing the greatest barriers to access.
-
All you need is a computer (desktop or laptop) or mobile device (tablet or phone) with an internet connection, camera, and microphone. Make sure you can access your emails from your device, this is where we will send you the link for your session. It is also a good idea to use headphones. Your online consultation is conducted using your web browser without the hassle of downloading additional apps or setting up new accounts.
-
The first session is about getting to know each other. Usually, your psychologist will gather information about your concerns (how you have been thinking, feeling, and behaving) and the impact this is having on your day-to-day functioning. Often your psychologist will ask for information about family and mental health history, along with relevant medical and trauma history. Some people are reluctant to share this information in detail in the first session- That’s OK! You are the best judge of what feels safe to share. Once your psychologist has enough information, they will talk you through a treatment plan- this is basically what therapeutic interventions and strategies you might use together and how they align with your goals in the therapy space. You can ask lots of questions and share your thoughts about the process.
-
Yes and no…Your psychologist will make recommendations on things to try between sessions. This could be drawing your attention to your responses/reactions to various experiences, it might be trying out new ways of behaving or thinking. It is up to you if you take up the recommendations. We ask that you keep an open but critical mind and give things a go. After all, if you don’t behave or experience your circumstances differently outside of the therapy space, it is likely the issue you came to therapy to address won’t change either. You have to do the ‘work’ to see the results.
-
No, we do not provide reports for family or criminal court.
